Well, school has once again begun. This is my second year teaching in Jonesboro, and I really enjoy it. My students are very excited that I'm pregnant, and I think that it influences them to behave more, which is AWESOME! The teachers and staff are very supportive and very excited too. Two teachers had babies last year, and I believe that I am the only pregnant teacher this year. My job keeps me pretty busy: I teach 3 different types of classes, I sponsor the Spanish Club, Student Council, and I am now the sponsor of our danceline, the Tiger Paws. I like the feeling of being busy, because it makes time fly by, even though by the time the weekend gets here I am completely exhausted.
Dustin is now teaching too. He teaches Spanish I and II at Caldwell Parish High School in Columbia. I know he enjoys his job, but being a first-year teacher, he is realizing that teaching isn't everything he imagined it would be. It is disappointing to him when students aren't very excited to learn, but I have to tell him that he can't make everyone excited. He has to be optimistic about those students who want to learn and keep a positive attitude for them. With him working an hour away from where I work and an hour away from where we live, it would be pretty scary if we had some emergency come up with me and the baby. Hopefully that won't happen, and everything will be okay this year.
I had my ultrasound appointment this past Wednesday (August 24). My students and teachers at school had been guessing as to what gender they thought the baby would be. Of course the girls wanted a girl, and the boys wanted a boy. The staff wanted me to have a boy, since the teachers last year both had girls. And of course everyone in Dustin's family, including Dustin, wanted me to have a boy, since it would make it the first grandson and nephew born in the immediate family. My brothers and sister also wanted me to have a boy. I think I am the only one who wanted me to have a girl, even though I had that "mother's feeling" that it was a boy.
The ultrasound lasted about 30 minutes. The baby is growing and it is very healthy. It likes to move around a lot, even though I can't really feel it yet. It has big feet and a cute button nose, from what I can see. At first it kept its legs crossed and had the umbilical cord in front of its parts, but since our sonogram tech was so good at her job, she was able to find the baby part and tell us that it was DEFINITELY a BOY. Of course my in-laws and my husband were laughing and crying tears of joy, while I was crying tears of sadness. I REALLY wanted a girl, mainly to hope that she would remind me of my mother. But the more I thought about it, the more it grew on me that my first child would be a son. My mother's first child was a boy too, so I'm like her. I think that she would have been happy with a grandson, since she only had one son and two daughters. And I don't have that many friends who have baby sons, so he will be kind of special among the people I know. And besides, everyone tells me that there is nothing in the world like the love a son has for his mother, which is why they call them "Mama's boys." So yes, I AM excited that I am having a baby boy! My first son!
Picking out boy names has been very difficult for Dustin and me. We know that we want his first name to be Dustin. Dustin's full name is James Dustin Johnson. He doesn't want to make the baby a jr., and he doesn't like the name James, so we want to make his first name Dustin, and call him by his middle name, whatever that may be. I guess we have 5 more months to figure it out.
I hit the 19 week mark yesterday. The belly keeps growing, the nausea has subsided, and I have gained about a pound. The baby is about 17 centimeters long, and weighs about 9 ounces. My due date is still January 20.
Picture 1: The baby in 3D. You can see his mouth open, with his little nose and arm and hand and face.
Picture 2: It's pretty explanatory. This is the first picture that showed us that our baby is a boy.
Picture 3: Outline of the baby. You can see his lips and little nose.
Picture 4: Our baby's big foot! You can see his knee on the other leg, and the leg connected to the big foot!
